A creative agency, also known as an advertising agency, is a firm that handles everything related to advertising, marketing and promoting a company’s products, services, talents, enterprises, and events. They handle everything from start to finish with dedicated strategies, planning and management of a marketing campaign.
But that was just the industry specifications; the marketing process is split up into many pathways, causing confusion as to what exactly a creative agency does and how they function. All creative agencies in San Diego and elsewhere are divided into many internal departments that share different projects or different portions of a big, diversified project. Here are some of the key departments of creative agencies:
Creative Department
The creative department generally consists of creators who create various elements that go into marketing. Professionals working in this department are web designers, creative directors, content writers, copywriters, graphic designers, and production artists. Most of the talent in a creative agency is housed in the creative department, as they are the ones responsible for creating visual and textual media that the public will see.
Advertising Department
The advertising department consists of professionals who are responsible for creating and posting ads. They generally manage different ad accounts and webmaster services and analyze all incoming and outgoing advertisement data. They continually look for changes in ad policies and implement them as soon as they become public knowledge. All advertisement material created in the creative department is sent to the advertisement department.
Web and App Development Department
Graphic designers and web developers are responsible for creating and maintaining websites. Graphic designers work closely together to create aesthetically-pleasing websites, while the latter works separately in managing the functions of the websites and creating other web portals and applications. Application developers create mobile apps for deployment across popular app platforms such as the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.
Business Development Department
Professionals in this department are responsible for drawing in new customers for the creative agency and maintaining good relations with existing customers. They are the very first department a client comes in contact with, and the BD department is responsible for bringing in business for the creative agency and keeping the income flowing.
HR Department
The human resource department is responsible for hiring new employees, maintaining employee preferences and looking after them. Any issue regarding individuals, hiring, and firing is done by the human resource department. Many of the bigger creative agencies outsource hiring to third-party staffing agencies, cutting down the work done by the HR department and allowing them to focus on the well-being of current employees.
Financial Management Department
This department consists of financial professionals who manage everything related to finance such as calculating the average income of the creative agency, costs incurred in a particular fiscal year, analysis of profits and loss, ways to cut down spending and so on. They are also responsible for keeping project budgets under check and making sure the other departments don’t overspend above the defined limit. They create bills and receipts for clients and keep track of their past and upcoming payments. In some agencies, they are also responsible for allocating monthly salaries to employees.
